How to access "Search Active Directory" on Windows 11 to update group memberships

This guide walks you through accessing "Search Active Directory" via opening "Windows Tools" then "Network"

Step 1.

Open the start menu and search for "Windows Tools"

Step 2.

On the left sidebar click on "Network"

Step 3.

At the top toolbar - click "Search Active Directory" with the orange icon and magnifying glass
 

Step 4.

Enter in the name of the group you want to check or update, you can search by the email address part before the domain "advisingstaff" or by the display name "Advising Staff"

 

Step 5.

Double click on the group to open the membership list, if you are the owner of the group you'll be able to add or remove people. You can also see other groups as well but will not be able to add or remove people if you're not the owner.

 

Optional step  - creating a shortcut to "Find Users" 

If you're often accessing this - create a shortcut to "C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe dsquery.dll,OpenQueryWindow" that can quickly open the "Find Users, Contacts and Groups" tool.

1. Right click where you want the shortcut such as your desktop, then select New > Shortcut
   
2. Copy and Paste in the below to the location on the shortcut screen
   
   C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe dsquery.dll,OpenQueryWindow
   
3. Name it something relevant to you such as "Update Groups"
